The Baldy View Division 61 Memorial
Scholarship Fund was formed in 1981 to provide funds for third year college
students planning to be teachers. All monies are derived from member
donations and interest earned on the accounts. Division 61 has presented
up to six $1000 scholarships each year to students who have completed two years
of college and are enrolled in a four-year institution with majors in
education. This year two new recipients were added to the list of four
continuing scholars and were honored at the June 9 luncheon. The
Committee Chairman is Laurentine Gates.
Over the last three years,
under the leadership of Beverly Brennan, former Scholarship Chairman, the Committee
has also established a Grant Program to for First Year Teachers.
Beverly has served
CalRTA as Past State Treasurer, is a Past President of Division 61, and has
been a member of the Board of Directors for Division 61 for a number of years.
